Eyes Wide Shut
Rain brings the new
the currents rush swiftly,
the wood gets wet and the fire yields —
and nothing will be as before.
We lose ourselves like the bend of a river,
our faces glide like water.
My hand traces these verses to remember
that with you, I am less bone and more truth,
more arrival, less longing.
I keep you intact
and hold you always,
in thought.
If I long for your eyes,
the moon will suffice —
in its deep glow, I find them.
If I miss your smile,
I wait for night to fall:
the stars bring me your joy.
If I yearn for your skin,
I go out to feel the sun —
from the warmth, I return to your touch.
If I seek your spirit,
I greet the birds —
and I am blessed with your freedom.
But if I want you whole,
and you are more beautiful than the world I live in,
then, I close my eyes.
